Perennial. Height 3 ft (92 cm). Member of the Sunflower family. Wild flower with a flat head of many pink or even mauve petals. Flowers May to August. Found in the wild by road verges and canal banks. Also known as Purple Goatsbeard (looks very similar to Yellow Goatsbeard), and vegetable Oyster (because its taste resembles that of oysters). . Its name comes from the Latin "solsequium" - sol (sun) and sequens (following) = flower that follows the course of the sun.
