Perennial. Member of the Stonecrop family. Also known as Wall Pennywort, Jack-in-the-Bush, Kidneywort, Lovers� Links and Coolers � possibly because the leaves were placed on burns to cool them. Fleshy stalks and succulent round leaves. Tubular greenish-white flowers from May to September. Found in the wild in damp and shady banks and walls.
Children used to use the leaves as imitation coins. Juice was used to treat epilepsy, inflammation of the liver and spleen. Leaves were used to treat piles, kidneys, gout and chilblains.
Food plant of Weavers Wave moth. Plant in a shady spot.
