Cultivated as an exotic in the seventeenth-century which later "escaped".
Good for walls. Spreads by seeking crevices and then bursting open its seed capsule, placing the seeds there. When in flower, the flower stalks bend towards the light. Once the flowers are over the seedheads bend the other way so that the seeds are shed in wall cracks and other crevices. Could be grown as ground cover.
