Buy wildflowers, herbs, native hedging, seeds and cottage garden plants in our online shop

Very pretty and common wildflower round in grassy verges, roadsides, meadows, hedgerows and scrubland. Frondy leaves and sprays of white flowers. Also known as Fairy Lace, Rabbit Meat, Gipsys Umbrella, Whiteweed, Cow Mumble, Keck, Adders Meat and Queen Annes Lace. Member of the Carrot family. Flowers April to August and grows to about 5 ft (1.5 m) high.

The name Queen Annes Lace is said to derive from when Queen Anne travelled the countryside around Kensington when the roadsides were full of this plant. She and her ladies carried lace pillows which Cow Parsley was thought to resemble. The plant is also known as Devils Parsley because of its resemblance to the deadly poisonous Hemlock so beware. Another name was Mother Die country folk believed your mother would die if you picked the plant.

Rabbits enjoy eating the plant. Sylvestris means of the woods or wild. Children would use the hollow stems as pea shooters.

Plant in sun or shade, wet or dry soil. Beautiful addition to any border.
